this is how i work. insane i know. given half a chance i am just a big messy slob and because my crafty bags and boxes are mine and mine alone i have total freedom to keep them this way. it’s disgusting and i should be ashamed and i am making a promise to myself here on this crafty muthas blog that i will sort out this mess. while i’m trying my best not to sort it out however, i’ll be looking at this wonderfully inspiring site http://abeautifulmess.typepad.com/
i had a weekend of two halves. saturday was very hectic and involved lots of to-ing and fro-ing with small children followed by a 70’s themed 40th birthday party in the back room of a local pub. i wasn’t sure what the 40 year old in question would like as a gift so I made this abstract kind of pop art brooch
rejected it, then made this blousey two tone number
i wasn’t sure she’d appreciate this either so in the end i stuck it on the front of a gift bag and recycled a lovely jar of organic body cream. sometimes, especially if you don’t know someone really well, making something can be really hard. personally, i need to have some sort of connection with the recipient to inspire me. or i just have to really love what I’ve made and be confident that others will too. these two didn’t quite make the grade this time.
something i do love though is my new pin cushion. actually i don’t use pins very often but i do swap needles a lot when i’m sewing and i have an awful habit of just putting them down and losing them. i have nightmares that the kids will go downstairs in the morning, jump on the sofa and find a needle in their foot! so i cut the trim of my friends felted jumper, rolled it up, sewed on a base and here we have it, a safe place to stow my needles.
sunday was a total contrast to saturday. i had the most lovely day. woke up late (the kids were at my mom’s) spent the morning cooking my favourite lamb recipe and then had friends for dinner. we drank champagne and pastis, beer and wine and even snuck in a baileys coffee while we gobbled up the meal and when my friends went home i snuggled down in front of xfactor. a pretty perfect end to a pretty perfect day. so now i’m going to give you all the best gift ever and share the recipe with you. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/life_and_style/food_and_drink/recipes/articl… i pulled it out of the sunday times magazine a year or two ago and kept it safe until some meat loving, fine food eating friends were coming to dinner. they went home with the recipe and so has everyone else since, even my dad. it does it all. it’s incredibly easy. makes the house smell divine. is low on washing up. and everyone loves it. so go on, make it soon.
