tick tock tallulah
our little friend tallulah’s 4th birthday. what to make the young peter pan obsessive?  well…i didn’t think my drawing skills were up to human characters so i started by sketching a crocodile.  i pinned the cut out template onto felt and cut out two, using pinking shears for the feet and back.  i was going to make a plush toy, a little stuffed crocodile at first but then i started thinking…does she need another soft toy? does any 4 year old i know want for stuffed toys?  NO. my house is overrun with them.  so how about a little cushion for her bed? i had an old floor cushion cover that i washed (its dyed a number of tea towels pink!) and cut out.  i used the reverse of the fabric because it was a much deeper colour.  i also cut out the little bits for teeth and tongue and eyes from some felt scraps i had.  then i had a moment of inspiration. the clock + bedtime.  somehow it all came together quite perfectly.  apart from my not so deliberate mistake…tick tock, tick…TICK.  i obviously wasn’t concentrating when i embroidered the words and i’d sewn up the cushion by the time i noticed. never mind.  it’s Never Never Land, ‘where dreams are born, and time is never planned.’ J.M.
