one very pre-menstrual mother + one six year old boy testing his boundaries = lots of shouting before 8am. not a good start to the day. but with the help of martha wainwright and her angsty, angry, beautiful album and the gorgeous smell of lavender in my front room i’m sorting it out. i printed these muslin squares last night using some leaves collected from the school carpark and my new dylon fabric paints. it was a lot of fun until i got to the fixing bit. “cover painted area and iron on a very hot setting for 1-2 minutes” which for me means 2 minutes because i like to be sure. because my ironing board is in the shed or somewhere equally useless i ironed on the floor, on a sheet. but i’ve made 17 of these little painted squares which adds up to 34 minutes of boredom and you don’t have to be good at maths to work this out – a nice burnt patch on my floorboards. i’m still new to this crafting business after all. at least i remembered to turn the iron off. anyway if you’re coming to ‘a handmade christmas in bearwood’ on 20th November you’ll be able to see if i make it, or if i burn the house down first. by the way the wreaths are coming along very nicely, but it seems one trip to the ribbon shop wasn’t enough, so you can wait a few more days to get a peek.
