i’ve turned into the most boring woman in bearwood. all i can talk about is eggs. buying eggs, dying eggs, draining eggs, cleaning eggs, eating eggs, decorating eggs… eggs have become my life. i have become egg obsessed.

for the past month, all i have been doing is making decorations out of duck eggs. i remembered that when i was a little girl in Canada, we used to decorate eggs using wax. The method originated in the Ukrain, and is called Pysanka. it was hard to track down the kit to decorate the eggs here in the UK, but i’m glad i persevered, as i’m oh so very smitten with my eggs.

now, i’ll admit that my humble little eggs are not as fancy and elaborate as the traditional Ukrainian easter eggs… but i think they are quite sweet. i’m going to be selling them at the I <3 Bearwood in the Springtime craft fair, so if you fancy having one of these eggs to hang in your window or give as a gift, you can find me at St. Mary’s on April 9th.

  1. Cat, i got the kit from the Association of Ukrainians in Great Britain : http://www.augb.co.uk/ukrainian-easter-eggs-pysanky.phpif you email them, they’ll send you information on how to order from their bookstore. the kit costs £22 and you get all the dyes, beeswax and 3 "kistkys" – the tool you need to apply the wax.the resource i used the most to research how to do it was this website:http://www.learnpysanky.com/so many tips! i didn’t need to look anywhere else.
